Pilates

Imagine an exercise program that you can actually look forward to!

Since the addition of the Pilates Method (pronounced puh-LAH-teez) of therapeutic exercise over one year ago, we have had a phenomenal response from patients who, for a variety of reasons, did not tolerate the more traditional strengthening programs.

The Pilates Method of body conditioning utilizes spring-loaded machines and several other unique pieces of equipment to create a safe but effective exercise program. Pilates addresses the entire body working together, not just specific muscle groups. Pilates builds strength, balances muscle length, teaches proper body alignment and increases body awareness. Thus, Pilates is a very efficient exercise system, not to mention fun.

Patients that respond especially well include those with scoliosis, fibromyalgia, and arthritis

The Pilates Method of exercise was developed by Joseph Pilates over eighty years ago. Each exercise consists of precise movements, requiring proper control and form. These exercises can be integrated into rehabilitative exercises designed to speed recovery following injury.

Regardless of a person's level of fitness - from sedentary to fitness enthusiast - a Pilates program can be designed to optimize conditioning and injury recovery. In addtion, Pilates can be performed at different levels - beginner to advanced - which allows for the development of individualized programs for any age.

Pilates is available on a one-to-one basis or in a small group setting.
